Geothermal heat collectors
Sub-surface geothermal heat collectors utilise solar heat stored in the earth.
Sub-surface geothermal heat collectors utilise solar heat stored in the earth.

Sub-surface geothermal heat collectors are heat exchangers that are laid horizontally at a depth of 80-160 centimetres. The heat they extract from the earth is stored solar energy, because solar energy penetrates the earth through direct radiation, heat transfer from the air or through rainfall. Thus the weather conditions at the surface determine the operating conditions of a sub-surface geothermal heat collector. To utilise the earth as a source of heat, plastic coiled pipes or capillary tube sheets, that are referred to as horizontal ground heat exchanger, are installed.
