Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy to build facility in Boston

- The CSE's areas of specialty include PV module innovation
On May 17th, 2011, the Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (CSE) announced that it will develop a sustainable energy and building innovation center in Boston.
The USD 20 million, 4,600 square meter research facility will house Fraunhofer's technical research and development laboratories, and support start-up companies through the TechBridge start-up accelerator group.
“The new building for the Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE) will literally be a living laboratory, attracting building technology pace-setters from around the nation and the international business community to demonstrate the future of sustainable buildings,” said Fraunhofer CSE Executive Director Dr. Roland Schindler.
“The CSE facility will help develop the City of Boston’s Innovation District and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a hub of sustainable energy technology and research.”
CSE secures first partner
The CSE states that it has secured its first anchor partner and is currently in the process of identifying other companies that may be interested in joining its effort.
The center will focus on the development of low-cost, high-efficiency systems, products and best practices.
Fraunhofer states that it will leverage the experience it gained developing the Fraunhofer inHaus, an innovation research collaboration between the German building materials industry and construction companies.
Fraunhofer CSE is a division of the non-profit Fraunhofer USA (Cambridge, Massachusetts, U.S.).
