CPS to add 400MW of electricity from solar

- SEPA states that CPS Energy's decision was driven by the low prices the utility received in response to an earlier solicitation
On July 18th, 2011, the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA, Washington D.C., U.S.) praised a statement by CPS Energy's (San Antonio, Texas, U.S.) that it will seek up to 400MW of electricity from solar sources, rather than the 50MW it solicited earlier in 2011.
SEPA states that CPS Energy's decision was driven by the low prices that the utility received in response to its earlier solicitation.
“SEPA applauds CPS Energy’s desire to integrate up to 400MW of solar electricity into its grid," stated SEPA President and CEO Julia Hamm. "That is enough electricity to power 80,000 homes and will provide significant benefits to the utility’s San Antonio, Texas customers."
“While the use of utility-scale solar power has steadily spread across all parts of the nation, the abundance of solar resources in the Southwest makes it a perfect location for a project of this scale."
