On October 18th, 2011, Tucson Electric Power (TEP; Tucson, Ariz.) announced that it received a solar business achievement award from the Solar Electric Power Association (Washington, D.C.) for its innovative Bright Tucson Community Solar Program, which allows customers to purchase solar energy directly from their utility.

Tucson Electric Power has been recognized with an award for Utility Innovation in Solar Program Design by the SEPA in Dallas during Solar Power International 2011.

"TEP continues to demonstrate its leadership in the utility industry through the implementation of its Bright Tucson Community Solar Program," SEPA President and CEO Julia Hamm said.

"Customers in the TEP service territory are lucky to have a progressive energy provider that offers programs that allow them to take advantage of solar energy in a low-cost, hassle-free way."

TEP's Bright Tucson Community Solar Program allows customers to purchase energy from local solar arrays in 150 kWh "blocks" that add USD 3 each to their monthly bills. Customers can purchase some or all of their energy through the program, reducing or eliminating their use of conventional power while locking in an affordable solar energy rate for up to 20 years.
