Suntech CEO Dr. Zhengrong Shi chosen as head of Asian Photovoltaic Industry Association

- Dr. Shi's role will include creating a favorable investment environment to help PV market expansion
On October 31st, 2011, Suntech Power Holdings Company Ltd. (Wuxi, China) announced that its CEO and Founder Dr. Zhengrong Shi has been appointed as the first chief chairman of the Asian Photovoltaic Industry Association (APVIA).
Dr. Shi was chosen by the 670 PV companies, 23 industry associations and 15 research institutes which comprise the organization. He will serve as chief chairman for two years, with the goal of driving the strategic growth of APVIA and promoting the advancement of the Asian PV industry.
"With the Asian PV industry projected to account for approximately one-third of global demand by 2015, Asia is uniquely positioned to lead the charge in driving the growth of the PV industry worldwide," said Dr. Zhengrong Shi.
"Asia is home to a number of leading PV companies with excellence in manufacturing, technology and R&D, and boasts amazing solar resources. Through APVIA, the PV ecosystem will collaborate to develop the best technologies, achieve economies of scale, and identify market opportunities to achieve grid parity both in Asia and the world."
Role includes enhancing public-private sector communications
As chief chairman, Dr. Shi's role will also involve supporting public-private sector communications on industry policies, creating a favorable investment environment to help market expansion, and establishing a platform to nurture innovation and technology in the region.
The APVIA's founding ceremony was held in Singapore on October 31st, 2011 during the Singapore International Energy Week conference. The group was approved by the Corporate Regulatory Authority of Singapore in January 2009.
