On November 8th, 2011, SolarCity Corporation (San Mateo, California, U.S.) announced that it has received the 2011 Green Jobs Award by the SJF Institute for its success in creating more than 1,300 "green" jobs.
SolarCity has added more than 1,200 of these jobs since the beginning of the recession in December 2007. The company currently has more than 20,000 solar projects in 11 states either under construction or completed.
"Our more than 1,300 employees make it possible for many homeowners and businesses to switch to clean, solar power for less than they pay for utility power,” said SolarCity Vice President of Human Resources Linda Keala.
"Every SolarCity employee supports and plays a key role in increasing the use of clean power or using power more efficiently to make our country less dependent on energy sources that pollute our environment.”
Institute supports "green" job creators
SolarCity was one of seven companies chosen for the award.
SJF states that it launched the Green Jobs Award 2010 to honor innovative privately-held American companies that are preserving or enhancing environmental quality while creating jobs.
The institute's stated goal is to accelerate the growth of "green" job creators and demonstrate the potential of the green economy for communities.
