U.S. Solar Electric Power Association appoints Darren Deffner as director of policy

On November 2nd, 2011 the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA, Washington D.C., U.S.) announced that it has appointed Darren Deffner to the newly created position of director of policy.
In this position, Deffner will lead SEPA's efforts to monitor and analyze proposed and current federal and state policies, ensuring that the SEPA members understand potential impacts. Deffner will also analyze state solar policy trends and provide information on the impact of those trends on solar markets.
“We are excited to welcome Darren to the exceptional team at SEPA,” said SEPA President and CEO Julia Hamm.
“Darren brings a wealth of experience from both the utility and policy-maker perspectives and is an integral resource for SEPA members as utility use and integration of solar energy continues to grow across the nation.”
Background includes PG&E, U.S. congressional staff positions
Prior to the appointment, Deffner served as manager of environmental and federal affairs at Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E, San Francisco, California, U.S.), where he led and coordinated energy and environmental policy developments in renewable energies, smart grid and transmission issues.
In addition to other positions held at PG&E, Deffner has served as an aide to several U.S. Representatives, chief of staff to San jose Councilmember Ken Yeager, and adjunct professor at San Jose State University.
