Ventus Solaris files environmental impact statement for 110 MW PV plant in Chile

On November 2nd, 2011 Ventus Solaris S.A. (Santiago, Chile) submitted an environmental impact statement (EIS) with Chile's Department of Environmental Assessment for a 110 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant, to be located in Quillagua, Chile.

Ventus Solaris plans to construct the Central Sol del Loa PV plant in three phases: a 20 MW initial phase, a 40 MW second phase and a final 50 MW phase. The company expects approval for the project on January 26th, 2012, and to commission the plant by April 23rd, 2012.

5.2 km of transmission anticipated

The Central Sol del Loa plant will represent an estimated investment of USD 296 million, and will comprise an estimated 478,000 PV modules.

For the first and second stages the company is planning to build a 0.9 km transmission line, as well as a 4.3 km transmission line for the third stage.

The plant will be located in Quillanga, in the Antofagasta Region of Northern Chile. Northern Chile has some of the best solar resource in the world, and the Central Sol del Loa PV plant is one of a number of large PV plants being planned in this part of Chile.
