On January 31st, 2012, Conergy France (Brignoles, France), a subsidiary of Conergy AG (Hamburg Germany), announced that it has completed three rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) installations with a total power rating of 6.1 MW.

The company teamed up with local company Soligest to develop the building integrated PV (BIPV) projects, which will produce 6.5 GWh of clean electricity per year.

Over 80,000 thin-film modules on 67,000 square meters

The installations include a 2.7-MW PV system installed on top of a logistics centre in Thiers, Puy-de-Dôme in France; a 2.3-MW system in Bollène in Vaucluse; and a smaller 1.1-MW system on top of a warehouse in Maine-et-Loire. The companies have installed more than 80,000 thin-film modules on 67,000 square meters of roof surface.

Conergy was responsible for both the design and technical planning of the installation, while Soligest installed the systems and will also operate them.

220 megawatts of larger installations expected in the next years

Although legislation has changed in France recently, private, medium and large-sized rooftop PV installations can still be lucrative, Conergy emphasizes. Experts estimate that in the coming year the combined output of medium-sized rooftop installations up to 100 kilowatts and larger installations up to 250 kilowatts will be around 220 megawatts, Conergy stated.
