On January 31st, 2012 Fluor Corporation (Irving, Texas) announced that it has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract by an LS Power Group (New York, New York, U.S.) company for the construction of a 125 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in the U.S. state of Arizona.

LS Power has closed project financing and obtained all major permits for the Arlington Valley Solar Energy II (AVSE II) project, as well as securing a power purchase agreement to sell the electricity generated. Flour expects to commission the plant by the end of 2013.

"This significant new win for Fluor positions the company as a leader in the solar power engineering and construction industry," said Fluor Power Group President Dave Dunning. "We look forward to expanding our solar resume and delivering one of the world’s largest solar PV projects for LS Power."

"Fluor’s financial strength and backing for this project demonstrates our ability to bring a turnkey solution to our clients for their utility-scale solar developments."

LS Power's largest project to date

The AVSE II plant will be located on 4.7 square kilometers of land in Maricopa County, Arizona. LS Power states that this is its largest solar project to date, and the plant is also larger than any currently operational PV plant worldwide.

Flour states that engineering and procurement for the project is currently underway from its Southern California operations center. The company has been awarded a separate contract for operations and maintenance of the plant.
