Power-One renewable energy sales increase 10% in 4Q 2011

- Power-One shipped 2.9 GW of its inverters in 2011, a 12% increase over 2010
On February 2nd, 2012 Power-One Inc. (Camarillo, California, U.S.) released financial results for its fourth quarter of 2011, reporting a 10% sequential increase in revenue from its Renewable Energy Solutions business to USD 191 million.
Overall, the company achieved USD 267 million in revenue, an operating margin of 18% and USD 32.4 million in net income during the quarter. Power-One also shipped 829 MW of inverters, bringing its 2011 total to 2.9 GW, a 12% increase over 2010.
“In 2011, Power-One again recorded over $1 billion in sales, highlighting our ability to execute and generate profits in difficult operating environments,” said Power-One CEO Richard Thompson. "Both business units performed well in the fourth quarter, as Power-One generated $48 million of operating cash flow in the quarter and finished the year with over $200 million in cash."
"Power-One continues to expand in high growth solar markets, such as India and the United States. As we move forward in 2012, look for Power-One to provide innovative new products to meet our customers’ demands for better yields, higher uptimes and greater control of their PV assets."
Inverter sales to North America, Asia-Pacific increase to 25% of revenues
Power-One notes that its Renewable Energy Solutions business has also diversified, with North America and the Asia-Pacific regions representing 25% of the business unit's revenue, as opposed to 17% in the third quarter of 2011.
The company also notes that a greater percentage of its 2011 inverter sales were for the utility-scale solutions, which it says reflects a trend of an increasing proportion of large-scale, ground-mounted plants in the global PV market.
