PV inverter producer Fronius to establish Chinese subsidiary

- Fronius subsidiary in Shanghai city
On January 31st, 2012, inverter manufacturer Fronius international (Pettenbach, Austria) announced to establish a wholly-owned subsidiary in Shanghai, China, in March 2012.
The company plans to launch its subsidiary with a total of 12 employees working in sales, after-sales (technical support, repair center) and marketing.
The company first started its operations in China when it secured a 1 MW project in Chongming and setting up an agency in the country.
China is the fastest-growing PV market
The Chinese market is the fastest-growing photovoltaic (PV) market in the world, and is on course to become one of the biggest over the next few years, Fronius said. The company aims to win a significant share of the market for systems up to 5 MW by 2013. This also means developing an outstanding after-sales network within this timescale. An extensive sales partner network is also planned.
"We fulfil the requirements of the Chinese market. China has a well-developed market for building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV). This is a key area in which we specialise, offering a wide range of products. The core market centres around 1 MW projects, for which the specification of our inverters is ideally suited," stated Knut Wimberger, managing director of Fronius China.
Solar installed capacity in China to reach 10 GW by 2015 and 50 GW by 2020
The China’s National Development and Reform Commission is planning to develop the BIPV (building integrated photovoltaics) market in its 5-year plan, and has earmarked subsidies specifically for rooftop systems. The effects of this will start to be felt between 2013 and 2015. According to Li Junfeng, deputy director of the Energy Research Institute of the NDRC, the installed capacity will reach 10 GW by 2015 and 50 GW by 2020.
