GCL-Poly's polysilicon production has boomed year-over-year

GCL-Poly Energy Holdings Ltd. (Hong Kong, China) has released preliminary production and shipment figures for the first nine months of 2012, reporting a 78% year-over-year increase in polysilicon production to 32,900 metric tons and a 44% increase in wafer production to 4.73 GW.

GCL-Poly sold less than a third of this polysilicon, totaling 9,670 metric tons, at an average price of USD 23 per kg over the nine-month period. The company also sold 4.32 GW of wafers.

"Despite the global solar business has been affected by the European debt crisis, the anti-dumping and countervailing duties imposed by the US, resulting in the decrease of the selling prices of polysilicon and wafers, the Group will continue to improve its production technology with a target to enhance its product quality while keeping a low production cost," declared GCL-Poly in a press statement.

"At the same time, the Group will grasp any investment opportunity in solar farm in order to accelerate the solar energy development and achievement of grid-parity in China."

Production, shipments fall in 3Q 2012

GCL-Poly's polysilicon production fell during the third quarter of 2012 to 7,630 metric tons, with both polysilicon and wafer shipments declining to 657 MT and 1.13 GW.

Average selling price for the company's wafers stood at USD 0.25 per watt in the third quarter of 2012, with polysilicon prices falling to USD 20.1 per kg.
