Dow Chemical Company (Midland, Michigan, U.S.) has announced that its Powerhouse Solar Shingle will now be available for homeowners in the U.S. states of Connecticut, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan and New York, as well as Washington DC.

The Solar shingles were already available in Colorado, Northern California and Central Texas beginning earlier in 2012. Additionally, Dow reports a number of milestones for its Enlight Photovoltaic (PV) films in 2012, including the introduction of new products and manufacturing locations.

"We’re expanding availability in strategically chosen markets where there is strong interest, where electricity costs are high, and where the market is already supporting solar through legislation and incentives," comments Dow Energy Solutions President Mauro Gregorio.

"These markets have motivated homeowners who are interested in finding ways to bring down their energy costs. In this case, we’re providing a novel solution using an untapped part of the home - a roof - for energy innovation."

Solar Shingles offered through roofing contractors

Dow Powerhouse Solar Shingles are offered through a network of professional roofing contractors who have become authorized dealers, and through homebuilders who have incorporated the product into housing developments.

New PV films factory, products in 2012

In July 2012, Dow inaugurated a new Enlight PV film factory in Thailand. The company notes that this location brings it closer to centers of Asian PV manufacturing.

The company has also introduced Enlight Back Encapsulant Composite Films, a technology that serves both as a backsheet and encapsulant layer for PV modules. Finally, the company introduced new Enlight polyolefin encapsulant films.
