BYD to supply 110 MW of solar PV modules for plants in South Africa
BYD Company Ltd. (Shenzhen, China) has announced that it will supply 110 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules to an un-named customer for two PV projects in South Africa.
The modules will be used for a 75 MW PV plant and a 35 MW PV plant, which were selected under the first phase of South Africa's Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPP).
"South Africa is heading down the road of becoming one of the leading countries in the solar energy realm, and we’re glad to have joined this journey," stated BYD PV Department General Manager Tom Zhao.
"Our latest important project with partner is the REIPP (Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Program) in South Africa, and that project will help satisfy the demand for energy safety there.
"The large-scale solar energy PV power plant is the key to achieve economies of scale and lower the costs of mass solar energy power."
BYD states that it will continue to support project developers in phase 2 and phase 3 of the REIPPP.
