Solar PV feed-in tariff rates in Victoria, Australia fall to AUD 0.08/kWh

- Victorian Energy and Resources Minister Michael O'Brien has used the cost of the previous feed-in tariff to attack the Labour government
On January 1st, 2013 the Australian State of Victoria closed two of previous feed-in tariff programs, in favor of a new program that pays AUD 0.08 (USD 0.08) per kWh for solar photovoltaic (PV) plants up to 100 kW.
The deadline for paperwork under the "Transitional" feed-in tariff was September 30th, 2012. Customers that add new capacity to existing PV plants in 2013 will forfeit participation the Transitional and "Premium" feed-in tariffs, which paid AUD 0.25 and AUD 0.60 per kWh, respectively.
The new feed-in tariff rates only apply to excess electricity delivered to the grid, and minimum rates for subsequent years will be updated by the Essential Services Commission on an annual basis until 2016.
Industry sources warned that this sudden reduction would lead to a boom and bust cycle, as has happened to PV markets in other nations when feed-in tariffs rates are cut sharply.
