Chilean grid operator CDEC-SING (Santiago, Chile) reports that developers plan to connect eleven new solar photovoltaic (PV) plants totaling 355 MW to the nation's Northern Grid (SING) between March and December 2013.

If completed, these projects will add nearly 8% new capacity to the system. Two wind farms totaling 345 MW are also expected, for a total of 700 MW of new "non-conventional" renewable energy.

Plants likely to suffer delays

Commissioning for the majority of new PV capacity at 233 MW is planned for the first half of 2013. Anticipated plants include the San Miguel 1 and 2 PV plants at 18 MW and 40 MW respectively.

However, CDEC-SING also notes the high likelihood that many of these plants will suffer delays in commissioning due to agency reviews and the technical complexities of connecting to the grid.
