On February 14th, 2013, PROINSO (Fustiñana, Spain) announced that it has opened a new branch in Tokyo, Japan.

The company states that it will start operations in Japan's solar photovoltaic (PV) market as the nation has a huge growth potential. In the wake of the Fukushima nuclear disaster, Japan implemented feed-in tariffs to promote renewable energy.

The new branch in Japan is in line with the company's strategy to focus on new international markets, since the international business currently accounts for 88% of the company's total sales, PROINSO states.

Japan solar PV capacity reaches approx. 7,000 MW at the end of 2012

Japan is in the top-five ranking for countries with the largest solar PV capacity – 7,000 megawatts (MW) installed as of late 2012, according to the company. The market is expected to grow considerably over the next years, in a country where 800,000 new homes are built on an annual basis and where solar PV installations are 80% residential and 20% non-residential.

In the 2013 - 2016 period, Japan is expected to install about 13,000 MW, thus reaching a total 20,000 MW in 2016, PROINSO notes.

Following the opening of the new branch, PROINSO will participate in the PV Expo 2013, which will be held in Tokyo from February 27th, 2013, through to March 1st, 2013.
