United States adds 267 MW of utility-scale solar PV in January 2013

In January 2013, the United States installed 267 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity at 16 utility-scale PV plants, according to data released by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's (FERC) Office of Energy projects.

Solar and wind projects were the only new capacity added during the month, though a number of other energy projects received certification. According to the office, this brings utility-scale PV to 4.44 GW, or 0.38% of the nation's generating capacity.

Significant new transmission coming to Texas

No new transmission projects were completed during the month, though progress was made on projects in the states of Oregon, New Mexico and New York.

FERC has also identified over 5,000 miles of transmission in the Texas Reliability Entity (TRE) region as having a high probability of completion by 2015, as the large majority of anticipated new transmission by that date. TRE manages the ERCOT grid, which roughly corresponds to the state of Texas.
