JA Solar PV modules get UL certification for use in 1,000 V-DC installations

- UL certification proofs suitability of JA Solar modules for a wide range of solar installations
On March 6th, 2013, JA Solar Holdings Co. Ltd. (Shanghai, China) announced that it has received UL 1703 certification for its entire range of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules from Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for use on 1,000 V-DC systems in the United States and Canada.
"UL certification is proof of the suitability of JA Solar modules for a wide range of solar installations. There is a growing demand for modules which allow for longer installation runs, not just in North America, but across the global solar market, and this certification puts JA Solar in a strong position to service that need," JA Solar Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Yong Liu stated.
The modules were tested in Intertek laboratories and also received ETL certification, demonstrating their compliance with the requirements of widely accepted product safety standards, the company states.
V-DC PV systems market to grow by 25% between 2011 and 2016
The use of 1,000 V-DC systems is becoming increasingly common in several solar markets, particularly the United States. In addition to higher voltages, 1,000 V-DC systems are associated with lower installation costs, increased inverter efficiency, and a reduced need for balance of system (BOS) components, the company notes.
The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) estimates the 1,000 V-DC systems market in the U.S. will grow at a compound annual rate of 25% between 2011 and 2016.
