New York City solar installer Quixotic Systems has designed an innovative photovoltaic (PV) solution in the heart of the Bronx at Urban Health Plan's Simpson Pavilion.

The solar photovoltaic (PV) system designed and installed by the team at Quixotic foregoes limited roof space common in dense urban areas in favor of the Bronx building's south-facing four-story façade.

While the solar wall makes an attractive addition to the building, the 37 kW system's most distinct feature is that it is expected to perform best in the winter – unlike most PV installations, which typically generate more power during the summer.

The high-efficiency array featuring SunPower PV panels mounted on a custom vertical rack is expected to save UHP more than USD 230,000 over the system's life.
