Concentrating Solar Power technology: NECSO project rolls out new test protocols for selective absorber tubes coating

2014-09-01 |

Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) technology based on parabolic trough solar collectors for large-scale electricity generation is currently one of the most mature CSP designs in terms of previous operation experience, scientific and technical research and development. The stack of layers, used in solar absorber tubes is a combination of coatings with different compositions and thickness. The global performance depends on the nanometric properties of the entire stack. Some analysis have unveiled that during the working life, the solar absorber tubes suffer an ageing process, which reduces the global performance. NECSO, a European Commission project funded under the 7th Framework Programme, aims to design accelerated ageing protocols to test the evolution of the coatings during the entire receiver’s life. 2013 review: Solar goes east - Growing global PV markets expected in 2014

2014-01-09 |

After the upsetting experiences of 2012, 2013 was a much better year for the global solar industry. 2012 started with a trade war raging on three continents and collapsing PV prices across the value chain, which continually pushed more companies to bankruptcy. In 2013 all this changed. There has been a conclusion to the trade dispute between the EU and China, and if it is not entirely satisfactory to ever stakeholder, it at least has returned a degree of stability and predictability to the industry. PV prices across the value chain stopped their collapse, in some cases rebounding by the end of the year, leading to margin recovery. Read more...

Making renewable energy a priority: An interview with Saïd Mouline, Director of the Moroccan agency of development for renewable energies and energy efficiency (ADEREE)

2012-08-17 |

Solar Server: Can you talk a little about ADEREE, its origins, and its work? Saïd Mouline: Morocco has been involved in renewable energy for 30 years. But a new approach was developed two years ago. It was decided then at the highest level of the state to give priority to renewable energy and energy efficiency in our energy policy. At the same level, we had created a renewable energy development center in 1982. This center worked many years for the development of technologies, looking at sites, looking at different applications, mainly for rural electrification, communications, solar pumping. Then, in the 1990's, we started looking at the wind regime in the country, and we developed ambitious wind measurements. Read more...
