The Thai solar thermal market grew 20% in 2012 to 22,660 square meters of collector area, continuing a trend of rapid growth over the last four years, according to estimates by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).

13,000 square meters of this new capacity was supported by the nation's DEDE subsidy program, with another 9.660 square meters estimated by GIZ. Thailand's industrial solar thermal sector grew dramatically in 2011 to 39% of collector area.

GIZ estimates that Thailand has a market potential of 2.24 million square meters of collector area, with the industrial sector representing 57% of that potential, or 1.27 million squarer meters.
