SEMI has announced that the latest edition of its International Technology Roadmap for PV (ITRPV) will be released at its PV Fab Managers Forum in Shanghai on March 17th–18th, 2014.

The new edition focuses on advanced solar manufacturing and includes input from 24 global PV suppliers and manufacturers. ITRPV also includes contributions from equipment and materials suppliers for the first time, as well as research institutes.

Focus on materials, cell concepts

The new ITRPV will focus on materials, including n-type and p-type silicon, and mono-like versus high-performing multicrystalline silicon and technologies that enable new products including glass-to-glass and bifacial modules. It will also look at printing and plating trends and technologies, as well as cell concepts and efficiencies in mass manufacturing.

Contributors include Applied Materials Inc. (Santa Clara, California, U.S.), Hareon Solar Technology Co. Ltd. (Jiangyin, China), Imec (Leuven, Belgium), JA Solar (Shanghai), LDK Solar (Xinyu City, China) and REC Silicon (Sandvika, Norway).

“The ITRPV needs to be a guiding document to enrich discussions among suppliers and manufacturers,” said Hareon Solar Chief Technology Officer Dr. Guoqiang Xing.

“Therefore, it is important to open the ITRPV process to include industry suppliers so that the ITRPV results will be more precise and discussions along the supply chain can be held concurrently with the data collection process.”
