Advanced Electronics Company (AEC, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) on Thursday, September 10th, 2015 held an inauguration ceremony to launch the new Shams solar photovoltaic (PV) inverter production line, powered by the German company KACO new energy (Neckarsulm).

The Shams solars inverters were launched in the presence of Mr. Ralf Hofmann, CEO of KACO new energy and Dr. Ghassan Al-Shibl, CEO of Advanced Electronics Company.

AEC and KACO new energy celebrated the fact that Shams, which was named by AEC and means ‘The Sun,’ is the first localized PV inverter family in Saudi Arabia.

Production line can manufacture up to 2,000 solar inverters or 1 GW annually

The green color of the Shams units, which range from 20 kW to 2 MW, symbolizes a ‘green environment’ and matches the color of the Kingdom’s flag.

During the event Dr. Al-Shibl, and Hofmann, revealed the Shams PV inverter production line which can produce up to 2,000 units or 1 GW per year. This system has been installed at AEC since November 2013 as a demonstration test facility, which has been specifically built to prove the high efficiency of the Shams inverters.

PV panel manufacturers are invited to test their equipment at AEC’s facility

Different types of PV panels are being tested by AEC, including poly-silicon manufactured locally by KACST, poly-silicon manufactured in China by Yingli Green Energy, thin film solar panels manufactured by First Solar and thin film CIGS manufactured by Manz AG.

“Other PV panel manufacturers are welcome to install and test their equipment at our facility. They will be able to observe how their panels withstand our harsh environment, and see online readings of the respective outputs,” said Dr. Ghassan Al-Shibl.

Shams is the first range of PV inverters which complies with the local content regulations. Shams can achieve the maximum credits as a Saudi made PV inverter from a Saudi company, which has more than 25 years of specialized local manufacturing experience and a Saudization employment ratio of over 73%. AEC and KACO new energy have signed several agreements that reflect the commitment to localization and technology transfer.

“All of us at KACO new energy are delighted to have established this partnership with AEC, which is one of the regional leaders in design, manufacturing, and repair and maintenance, in the field of electronics,” comments Ralf Hofmann.

“We know that AEC will provide their customers with Shams PV inverters, manufactured to the highest international quality standards, which will precisely match our German made PV inverters. The local manufacture of PV inverters will certainly prove to be a major advantage.”
